February 1, 2009 The meeting at Mid-winter Conference was well attended and during the discussion some points were made concerning the judging of the History Books. I am listing some of the things I saw concerning the books at the Convention last July. 1. Page Numbering, every page must be numbered to include the title Page. 2. Blank Pages, do not leave a blank page in your book, put something on each page, even if it s a sticker or logo. You can get stuff from National sales. 3. The Legion Preamble. This is a must for anything you do concerning the Legion in book or pamphlet form. 4. Introduction of Preface. You must have something explaining the book. What s it about the purpose of it. 5. Chapter Name. You should have a name for each chapter, example, Chapter One, Post Officers. Don not forget to have a title Page for the Appendix, and Index. 6. Appendix. Where all reports, minutes, and any other thing concerning the Post or County. 7. Index, this can be as detailed as you want to make it, you should have something. 8. Pictures, Each picture must have a caption, including the date, where taken, who s it, from left to right. NO glasses or bottles, good clear photo s. 9. Use a standard three binder, The binder should be 8-1/2 x 11, or 12 x 15 size, you should use sheet protectors if you can, it helps. 10. Cover Title, You should at least have your Post name and the year, on the front cover. These are some of the things missing from the books I saw during the judging. As always follow the instructions in the officers guide, that is what is used for the judging of the books. I have every intention of having a table next to the Department sigh-in table.
